Ammunition natures
History
Third System Enhancement Package — new armor, power, and the AMP round that collapses four natures into one. Fielded to Armored Brigade Combat Teams while a clean-sheet M1E3 is designed around a smaller crew and modular armor.
Doctrine
The current U.S. close-fight tank: a network node with a 120 mm. SEPv3 is built to see first (improved FLIR), share a common picture, and survive ATGMs with Trophy. The forthcoming M1E3 aims to cut weight the SEPv3 piled on.
Strengths
- Best-in-class optics and lethality
- Trophy vs ATGM
- Ammunition isolation
Limits
- ~67 tonnes
- Strategic airlift limited to C-5/C-17
- Turbine logistics
